The song "Pipes of Peace" celebrates the famous Christmas truce between British and German troops on the Western Front in 1914. The Pope Benedict XV - had called for an official truce for Christmas that year, but the military hierarchy had said no. The Christmas spirit transcended war however and two sides came together for a football match and to share chocolates, cigarettes and alcohol. It was also a time when accounts state that they buried fallen comrades with both sides paying their respects. (wikipedia)
